Sara Knelman
Sara Knelman is a writer, curator, and educator living in Toronto. Her recent book, Lady Readers (Ottoby Press, 2024), shares her collection of found photographs of women reading. She has recently contributed to Double Double, Protein Style, Animal Style with a Strawberry Shake and Chips: Stories the Feet Have Told, by Wyatt Conlon (The Fulcrum Press, 2022), A World History of Women Photographers (Thames & Hudson, 2022), and Night Fever: Film and Photography After Dark (London: Koenig, 2024), and has written, mostly about photography, for 1000 Words, Aperture, Canadian Art, Ciel Variable, Frieze, Prefix Photo and Source: The Photographic Review. Sara has held executive and curatorial positions at The Photographers’ Gallery, The Art Gallery of Hamilton, and Two Rivers Gallery, and was publisher of C Magazine. Recent curatorial projects include a presentation of Lady Readers in Back to the Future (Peckham 24, London, 2024), Farah Al Qasimi: Night Swimming (Contact, Toronto, 2023) and a curated selection of Lady Readers in Le Plaisir du Text (MBAL, Switzerland, 2021). She holds a PhD from the Courtauld Institute of Art, and has taught at the Courtauld, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London South Bank University, Toronto Metropolitan University, and the University of Toronto.
