Miwa Susuda is a New York–based publisher, writer, educator, and specialist in Japanese photography and photobook culture. She is the founder and publisher of Session Press, an independent publishing house dedicated to contemporary photography with a particular focus on artists from East Asia, and the manager of Dashwood Books, one of New York’s leading bookstores specializing in photography and the photobook.

For more than two decades, Susuda has worked closely with photographers, publishers, museums, collectors, and libraries in Japan and internationally. Her work focuses on Japanese photography and photobook culture, with particular attention to how Japan’s distinctive histories of publishing, magazines, bookmaking, and visual culture have shaped photographic practice.

Her writing has appeared in Aperture, FOAM, IMA, and other international publications. She has taught courses and workshops on Japanese photography, photobook history, and publishing, and has lectured, moderated conversations, and participated in public programs at institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Japan Society, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.
