ICP Alumni and Staff Pablo Íñigo Argüelles and María Prieto’s Proyecto Análogo Featured in Revista Ideal

Proyecto Análogo, the Mexican initiative founded by ICP alumni Pablo Íñigo Argüelles and María Prieto (Creative Practices '23), has been featured in the debut issue of Revista Ideal. Argüelles and Prieto work at the intersection of analog photography, writing, and design, developing projects that treat the printed object as a space for narrative, where images and texts are assembled to read the world together.

Argüelles and Prieto are part of Issue 0 of Revista Ideal, a publication that writer Gabriel García Márquez first envisioned as Periódico Ideal in the early 2000s, now brought to life by his son, Gonzalo García and led editorially by Felipe Restrepo Pombo.

Their contribution features a selection of photographs from Por esto me refiero a todo ("This Is Why I Mean Everything"), an ongoing body of urban work made between Puebla and Mexico City (2017–2024), presented as an exhibition in Mexico City that opened in June 2025. Revisiting their street and city photography, the series considers how everyday spaces — sidewalks, facades, storefronts, corners, interiors — quietly accumulate time, memory, and meaning.

The project also traces photography’s movement across surfaces: from the latent image held in the negative to the print, the book page, and the gallery wall — each transformation producing a new context and, with it, a new kind of latency. In that sense, the images published in Revista Ideal are not a final statement but one moment within a larger equation: an attempt to understand how photographs change as they shift from one material form to another, and how urban space can become a way of reading time.

“Throughout the years we’ve worked together, we’ve come to reaffirm a belief: photography—especially in its latent state—can hold together the temporal layers through which we understand reality.”

Both share these pages with celebrated Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide, whose photographs appear alongside a text by Mateo García Elizondo. The design of the edition was led by renowned design studio Castrejon-Rocha.
