About Our Programs

The ICP-Bard MFA program offers a rigorous exploration of all aspects of photography through an integrated curriculum of studio and creative practice, critical study, and Resident Artist Projects. The approach emphasizes creative vision and openness to examining the many iterations of the image, from photography to digital imaging, installation, and video. ICP's three One-Year Certificate programs provide advanced students with an intensive yearlong course of study to strengthen personal vision, refine skills and technique, and explore the many disciplines informing media and art today.

• General Studies in Photography: This program embraces the study of fine art photographic practices and experimental image production and challenges students to situate their work in the broader context of the cultural, political, and psychological use of images. The curriculum boasts a large selection of electives, in which students can let their curiosity and passions lead them in many new directions, including the moving image and new media. • Documentary Photography and Visual Journalism: This program focuses specifically on the investigative skills and technical knowledge necessary to advance in the complex and constantly changing world of visual storytelling. With an emphasis on developing a strong narrative voice, each participant creates an in-depth documentary project that explores essential social issues, focusing on topics such as community and identity, or the illumination of social injustices. • New Media Narratives: In an increasingly visual world, this program allows students to tell the important stories of the day in inventive and cutting-edge ways. With the narrative as the element that binds, our students engage and make work from the darkroom to the digital lab, from still images to video, from multimedia to immersive media, from mobile to big screen, from zines to augmented reality (AR), from linear to non-linear, from performance to projection mapping, and from data to code.
