About the Speakers

Russet Lederman is a writer, editor and photobook collector. She is a co-founder of 10×10 Photobooks (2025 recipient of the Royal Photographic Society Award for Photography Publishing) and lectures internationally on photobooks. Her editorial work has received awards from Paris Photo-Aperture, Kraszna-Krausz Foundation, AIGA, Les Rencontres d’Arles and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She regularly contributes articles and essays to journals and anthologies on photography, most recently to FOAM, Aperture and I’m So Happy You Are Here: Japanese Women Photographers. Her recent publications are What They Saw: Historical Photobooks by Women, 1843–1999 and Flashpoint! Protest Photography in Print, 1950–Present.

Miwa Susuda is a publisher, writer, educator, and photobook specialist based in New York. She founded Session Press to bring photography from Japan and East Asia to international readers. Alongside her publishing practice, she manages Dashwood Books, where she connects photographers, publishers, and readers through the everyday exchange of books and ideas. Her work spans developing publications with artists, advising on book projects, and teaching the histories of photography through photobooks. Across these roles, she is interested in how a book gives photographs new meaning, preserves personal experiences, and opens conversations between people across different cultures, places, backgrounds, and generations.

Maggie Mustard is Assistant Curator of Photography in the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Division of Art, Prints and Photographs at the New York Public Library. She earned her PhD in Art History and Archaeology from Columbia University, with a focus on postwar Japanese photography and photobooks. Recent exhibitions curated or co-curated at the NYPL include New York Subways 1977: Alen MacWeeney (2023), and The Awe of the Arctic: A Visual History (2024). Her most recent exhibition, The Art of Declaration, part of the NYPL's initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, is open now through January 2027.
