ICP Alum Sara Konradi on Assignment for The New York Times

Katie, a 4-year-old dog who lives in Brooklyn, comes to life when she’s killing rats, said her owner, Sarah Darby.Sara Konradi for The New York Times

Sara Konradi (Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism '23) photographed Katie, a 12 and a half pounds, four-years-old dog, for “New York City’s Secret Weapon in the War on Rats: Katie the Dog” in The New York Times, a feature exploring Katie’s role in the city’s efforts to control the rat population.

The article documents Katie's nightly work hunting rats in parks and alongside sidewalks, a role that emerged after he owner, Sarah Darby, noticed Katie's instincts for tracking rodents during late-night walks. According to the feature, Katie may catch hundreds of rats each year.
