“Indomitable: A Tribute to African American Women Who Led the Way”—a powerful photographic series—will be projected on the windows of the ICP Museum at 250 Bowery.

Conceived of and shot by amateur photographer Cristi Jones, “Indomitable” pays tribute to iconic women of color throughout history. Featuring Jones’ five-year-old daughter, Lola, as her muse and subject, the series recreates photos of her as women who fought for freedom, opened the doors of opportunity, and inspired with their works—from Sojourner Truth to Misty Copeland; Rosa Parks to Michelle Obama.

The photos were posted to social media in February 2017 with the goal of paying homage to those iconic women, as well as to empower Lola—and other young women—to stand up in the face of adversity, and to realize that, because of the women who came before them, they can be anything. What started as a private online project quickly gained momentum and garnered international media attention.
