Join us for the opening of 2018 ICP-Bard MFA candidate Naiwen Zhang’s solo exhibition, Day Dreams, at the ICP-Bard MFA Studios in Long Island City.

Day Dreams is an exhibition of two major bodies of works by Zhang consisting of photographs and video installation. Both were created during the artist’s time in China.

Zhang’s project tells non-linear stories through images created in her hometown, Wuhan, in response to the dramatic changes—caused by increased development—that are happening in these locales.

In this exhibition, Zhang documents what she saw in those places and how her imagination responds to the outside reality. Part of her feels like she lives in dissonant spaces, separated by time. In documenting this feeling of estrangement and desolation, she looks deeply at the concept of place and how memory changes through time, speaking of the exploration of the place in a wider human and environmental context.
