Gianni Civile (Documentary Practice ’25) has opened his first solo show, El Vacío de Toda Espera (The Emptiness of All Waiting), at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Buenos Aires (MACBA). Curated by Karina Acosta, the show brings together black-and-white photographs made in Uruguay between 2020 and 2023. It opened on October 24, 2026, and remains on view through November 29, 2026.
The exhibition combines spontaneous moments with constructed images, landscapes, and still lifes. The work is not a documentary project in the strict sense: observation coexists with fiction and abstraction. The images rest on simple situations and discreet bonds between people and fragments of their surroundings, photographed with the same closeness as the portraits, creating a continuity between the human and the material.
