Your Mirror: Portraits from the ICP Collection
Section: War
Suzanne Opton collaborated with soldiers at the Fort Drum army base who were between tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. The photographer asked each soldier to lay his or her head on a table. The resulting portraits are both intimate, because of the position, and overwhelming, because of the scale and the often shell-shocked expressions. Opton’s portraits suggest the costs of war to the humans who fight them.
