In 1993, the Gap launched an advertising campaign of famous people from the past wearing khakis. Rather than wearing khakis as part of a conformist uniform, the consumer would be in the company of such iconic trailblazers as Marlene Dietrich, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Frank Lloyd Wright.
