Ricky Day
Ricky Day is a Harlem, New York based photographer, filmmaker, media personality working primarily with themes related to identity, pop-culture and the Black American experience. Ricky is a 2025 graduate of the One-year Certificate in Creative Practices program at International Center of Photography.
The group exhibition "Look Up" at International Center of Photography (2025) was Ricky's first museum exhibition. Solo exhibitions include "I Do Think It's Not Asking Too Much for You to Love" at Creative Grounds D.C. and “For Love and Blackness” at Kente Royale Gallery in Harlem, New York.
In 2023 Ricky was selected as the Juror’s Award-winning photographer in two separate group exhibitions at Photo Place Gallery in Vermont, “Portrait – Self and Others” curated by Aline Smithson and “Parenthood” curated by Rebecca Senf.
His work has been shown in group shows in America and abroad including: “Fire and Soul: 100 Years of Harlem” at Kente Royale Gallery; New York; ”Black Art Matters“ at Maag Hall in Zurich;“Masterpiece” at Band of Vices in Los Angeles. Ricky has also exhibited in group shows at Leslie Lohman Museum and Leslie Lohman Project Space, Umbrella Arts, and Rush Arts and solo exhibitions include; the installation “Brother Outsider Won’t You Come Inside” and “Introducing Ricky Day. In 2020, Ricky served as the first ever artist in residence for Art Crawl Harlem on Governor’s Island in New York City.
Commissioned work includes; the 2021 and 2022 Pride campaigns for Emil Wilbekin’s Native Son which he conceived and photographed. Ricky was also commissioned to photograph the covers of fashion stylist Ty Hunter’s memoir “Makeover from Within” which expanded to a portfolio of images featured in the book. He has photographed editorial cover stories for Bleu Magazine, Ambassador Magazine, Swerv Magazine and Candid Magazine as well as contributing to editorial features in Yes! Magazine and AM/NY.
Ricky is a graduate of NY Theological Seminary where he earned a certificate in Christian Ministry and Leadership in 2022. From 2020 – 2024 Ricky executive produced and hosted of the engaging and inspiring weekly podcast, Nothing to Lose but Yourself which remains available on all major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Ricky brings creativity, integrity, and an infectiously positive and calming spirt to his work and interactions with his subjects.
