How to apply for scholarships and fellowships?
1. ICP's Merit-Based Scholarships and Fellowships
Inside the program application form (Slideroom), there’s a section where you can answer several questions to be considered for scholarships. When you submit the application form, you are automatically considered for every scholarship that you are eligible for. There’s no other specific requirements or additional forms to apply for the scholarships.
2. Additional Scholarship opportunities
(1) American Vision Scholarship (Deadline: June 8, 2025)
American Vision Scholarship is a new scholarship established to support talented photographers based in the United States. This scholarship offers $15,000 toward tuition for the 2025–2026 academic year and will be awarded to two students enrolled in one of ICP’s One-Year Certificate Programs—either Creative Practices or Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism.
The scholarship is open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents currently residing in the United States. Recipients will be selected by ICP’s Scholarship Committee based on the strength of their application materials and portfolios, with a focus on those who demonstrate a distinctive visual voice and strong potential in the field of photography.
The deadline to apply is June 8, 2025. Be sure to submit both your program application and scholarship form by that date. For more info here.
(2) Alberto Contreras Scholarship (Deadline: May 18, 2025)
The Alberto Contreras Scholarship provides full tuition and school fees for one Latin American student accepted into ICP’s on-site One-Year Certificate program in Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism.
This scholarship honors the memory and creativity of Mexican photographer Alberto Contreras, an alum of ICP’s One-Year Certificate program in 2000.
To qualify, applicants must complete the full application to the One-Year Certificate program in Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism. The scholarship is open exclusively to Latin American nationals currently residing in Latin America.
Applications are due by May 18, 2025. Be sure to submit both the program application and the scholarship form. The award will be granted to a candidate who demonstrates outstanding merit, as determined by the ICP Scholarship Committee. For more info here.
(3) Jan Mulder-Pacific Scholarship (Deadline: March 16, 2025)
This scholarship supports talented photographers from Pacific coast countries of the Americas: Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Peru, offering full tuition and fees for one academic year in ICP's One-Year Certificate Program in either Creative Practices or Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism.
Awarded to one recipient based on exceptional achievement, it is granted upon recommendation by the ICP Scholarship Committee. Learn more here.
Am I eligible to apply for scholarships and fellowships?
All domestic and international applicants are eligible to apply for ICP's merit-based scholarships and fellowships.
What is merit-based scholarships and fellowships?
Both merit-based scholarships and fellowships aim to recognize and support individuals who have shown outstanding abilities and achievements. Evaluated by the ICP Admissions and scholarship committee, these merit- based scholarships are awarded to the outstanding applicants based on the applicant’s overall performance and achievement, especially portfolio and statement of purpose.
How will I be notified about financial aid or scholarships?
ICP Admission results, including information about eligibility for scholarships, will be sent via email. If you are accepted into the program and have applied for a scholarship, your acceptance letter will include details about any scholarships you qualify for. Please note that decision letters are only sent via email (from [email protected]) — make sure to check your inbox for your admission results.
Can I apply for federal financial aid (FAFSA) at ICP?
No, ICP is not an accredited institution like a college or university, so the One-Year Certificate program does not qualify for federal student loans through FAFSA.
