Fall 2021 ICP Talks

We are pleased to announce the Fall Season of ICP Talks, ICP’s beloved photographer’s lecture series. Join us monthly online for four one-hour lectures featuring inspiring photographers who champion social change through photography, employ exciting practices that expand the form, and critically explore the role of images in visual culture today.

The Fall season takes place online September through December and is hosted by ICP’s managing director of programs, David Campany. This season features ICP alum, Dayanita Singh on the role of editions in imagemaking, visual artist Joshua Rashaad McFadden on his recent year documenting social unrest and his genre bending creative practice that engages archival materials to examine current life, Pacifico Silano on using image circulation and print culture to explore lost histories , and concludes with a candid conversation featuring photographer Jeff Wall on the notion of scale within his decades long imagemaking practice.

Reserve your seat for individual lectures or join all four and receive discount pricing with a season pass today!

Current ICP students and faculty of the One-Year Certificate programs are automatically enrolled. ICP Members will receive a coupon code to use for complimentary admission.

We strive to record all the ICP Talks lectures to make available to participants up to 14 days after the program but technical issues do happen. Recordings are not guaranteed for each lecture. We recommend participants to tune in live if there is a session they don’t want to miss.

Speaker Bios:

Dayanita Singh’s art uses photography to reflect and expand on the ways in which we relate to photographic images. Her recent works, drawn from her extensive photographic oeuvre, are a series of mobile museums that allow her images to be endlessly edited, sequenced, archived and displayed. Stemming from Singh’s interest in the archive, the museums present her photographs as interconnected bodies of work that are replete with both poetic and narrative possibilities. Publishing is also a significant part of the artist’s practice: in her books, often published without text, Singh extends her experiments on alternate forms of producing and viewing photographs.

Joshua Rashaad McFadden is an American visual artist whose primary medium is photography. McFadden explores the use of archival material within his work and is known for his portraiture. He also conceptually investigates themes related to identity, masculinity, history, race, and sexuality.

Pacifico Silano is an artist whose work explores print culture, the circulation of imagery and LGBTQ identity. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he received his MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts. His group exhibitions include the Bronx Museum of The Arts, Museo Universitario del Chopo in Mexico City, Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, Tacoma Art Museum and The Andy Warhol Museum. Selected solo exhibitions include Baxter ST@CCNY, The Bronx Museum of The Arts, Houston Center for Photography, Light Work & Rubber-Factory. His work is in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art.

Jeff Wall was born in Vancouver, where he lives and works, in 1946. He has exhibited his photographs internationally for the past 40 years. His pictures, in both black and white and colour, are usually large in scale and done in collaboration with performers. He calls them ‘cinematographic’. He is considered to be one of the artists who has led the way in emphasizing the affinities between photography, painting, and cinema. His work is included in many major public and private collections. Including the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, Tate Modern, London, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. He taught art in universities in Canada for twenty-five years, and his critical writing has been collected and published in several languages. He has been awarded several prizes, including the Hasselblad Award for photography in 2002 and the Roswitha Haftmann Prize in 2003.
