ICP alum Ricky Day (Creative Practices '25) opened a solo exhibition at Creative Grounds in Bloomingdale, DC. The exhibition showcases new and existing work by the Harlem-based photographer will be up from March 1 - May 26, 2026.
The exhibition features work from his photographic portrait series “Attributes of Love” and “Love Like This” as well as work specifically selected for inclusion in this exhibition. The show, inspired by the writings of the late feminist scholar and cultural critic bell hooks is an exploration of what it means to love romantically, platonically and in the familial setting. The show also reflects as the importance of the building of both a metaphysical and literal homeplace as acts of resistance and liberation for Black people.
Environmental and street portraiture, still life images and collage works are comingled with text-based personal reflections on the “ingredients of love” as defined by bell hooks. These personal reflections about love are responses to prompts Mr. Day provided to his sitters asking them to reflect on their experiences with the various “attributes of love.” The pictorial and text-based elements are woven together to create an emotional tapestry showcasing the resilience of Black Americans and our relationship to love.
"I do think it's not asking too much for you to love those with whom you sleep, share the happiness of those whom you call friends, engage those among you who are visionary and remove from your life those who offer you depression, despair and disrespect." – Nikki Giovanni
