The Savoy Ballroom, on Sough Parkway among the most fashionable shops and stores, offered many kinds of gatherings and recreation, generally arranged by Bronzeville's many social clubs and organizations. Joe Louis trained at the Savoy Boxing Arena, next door, which seated up to five thousand for regular matches.
