Paula Allen

Paula Allen is a photographer, lecturer and activist. She began her career 40 years ago photographing non-violent movements against nuclear weapons, and the Solidarity movement in Poland. She often works for human rights organizations such as Amnesty International, V-Day (The global movement to stop violence against women and girls), and Refugees International in counties such as Afghanistan, Haiti, North America and The Democratic Republic of Congo. Her images have been used in numerous mediums including magazines, films, human rights campaigns and exhibitions. Her book “Flores en el Desierto/Flowers in the Desert” tells the story of women searching in the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile for 17 years looking for the remains of their disappeared loved ones. She has received many grants and honors including a Pulitzer foundation grant, a New York Foundation of the Arts grant and an official postage stamp award from the Republic of France with her images focusing on stopping sexual violence against women and girls.
