Gianluca Lanciai (Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism '23), winner of the GFX Challenge Grant Program 2024, presents Timeland, a visual journey into the heart of Sardinia. For this project, Lanciai spent three months exploring how longevity is expressed not only through the island’s people but also through its landscapes, traditions, and rituals that endure across generations.
His work centers on rural regions such as Ogliastra and Barbagia—areas where ancient practices remain deeply woven into daily life. Rather than focusing solely on biological explanations for Sardinia’s status as one of the world’s five “Blue Zones,” Timeland offers an anthropological and spiritual perspective, reflecting on how culture, identity, and an almost mystical relationship with time shape the rhythms of the island.
