Over the last two years, Daniel Valentin has created a body of work born out of observations of the everyday life around him, the moments that happen in the edges of the frame.
His photographs depict domestic interiors as stages for complex familial attachments, juxtaposing those with the stillness of landscape and body. The images move across these spaces, exploring the traces of emotions that each contains.
Through this exploration, Valentin attempts to understand what it means to make a space in the world, how one fits in it and the role close familial relationships play in forming one’s consciousness. He seeks to capture the liminal space where he often finds himself, between the interiority of his world and the exteriority of the people and places around him. These boundaries are not clearly defined and often blur into each other, creating an ever-present tension that floats through the work.
