ICP Courses: Crit Lab with Darryl DeAngelo Terrell

Artist, writer, and curator Darryl DeAngelo Terrell invites photographers to “come learn, come grow, come explore”

"We are going to look at images, make images, think of images, talk, and write about images to make you a better, more well-rounded photographer," said Darryl DeAngelo Terrell about the Crit Lab class they are teaching at ICP later this month.

ICP’s version of a master class, the Crit Lab is designed to take your photography to the next level. Open to all genres and working methods, this course offers a supportive environment for photographers ready to refine their portfolios, clarify their artistic voice, and elevate their practice.

Originally from Detroit, Terrell’s multidisciplinary practice spans photography, writing, curating, and DJing. Their work is grounded in investigations of Blackness, femme identity, queerness, and the politics of belonging. "My practice is rooted in my love for glamor and beautiful things. Music plays a major part in my overall photographic practice."

A 2017 alumnus of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Terrell has also worked as Program Coordinator at Library Street Collective and as a Special Lecturer of Photography at Oakland University. Terrell has been a part of multiple residencies, exhibitions and shows across the world.

"This class is for anyone who is really interested in building a body of work, for anyone who may have questions or desire and need for a communal critique of their work. Come learn, come grow, and come with questions!"

If you’re ready to strengthen your portfolio and develop a more focused body of work, this course is for you.
