ICP alumna Enrichetta Xitlali Punzo (Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism ’24) has published her first book The Mouse in the Temple with Look Publishing (New York City). The Mouse in the Temple is a limited-edition artist book printed in an edition of 150. The project is a testimony to the last nine months the photographer spent with her father, who was living with a neurodegenerative disease. He became ill when they were both young, she was 24 and her father 74. Although he appeared physically unchanged, his behavior began to shift in unfamiliar and unsettling ways. As he grew increasingly aggressive and distant, photography became a bridge that helped them remain close during a period of profound change.
"Being close to him has always been extremely difficult and for a long time I decided that it would be better to have as little to do with him as possible. Our relationship was complicated and, sometimes, nonexistent."
