Miro Svolik is the recipient of the 1990 Young Photographer award

Miro Švolík is a Slovak photographer and visual artist recognized for his innovative staged photography, conceptual imagery, and experimental use of the photographic medium. Emerging during the final years of Communist Czechoslovakia, Švolík became one of the leading figures in contemporary Central European photography. His work combines elements of Surrealism, symbolism, theatrical performance, and postmodern visual culture, challenging traditional notions of photographic realism while exploring themes of identity, memory, human relationships, and the body. Through carefully constructed compositions and imaginative visual narratives, Švolík has played a significant role in expanding the artistic possibilities of photography in Eastern Europe.
