ICP Family Art Hour: “Whimsical Creatures” Inspired by Michiko Kon

Come experiment with new techniques and making art as a family during ICP Family Art Hour!

Join educator Xiana Garcia for this session of Family Art Hour. Be inspired by Michiko Kon, an exhibited artist featured in I'm So Happy You Are Here: Japanese Women Photographers from the 1950s to Now, who creates assemblages using anything from fish and vegetables to flowers and insects. Create and photograph your own surreal still life set up with organic materials and objects in a mini pop-up studio.

This program takes place in ICP’s cafe and is free to attend. Come early or stay after to explore our current exhibition, I’m So Happy You Are Here: Japanese Women Photographers from the 1950s to Now. Kids 14 and under receive free admission to ICP’s museum.

Families with children ages 4 and up of all abilities are welcome. Parents and guardians must remain with their children during the activity.

About the Artist

Xiana Garcia is an art educator with experience in classroom teaching and museum education. She currently works as a Visitor Experience Coordinator at the International Center of Photography and Family Programs at the Brooklyn Museum, where she is committed to making art and art-making accessible, engaging and meaningful for diverse audiences. She received her BFA in Photography from St John’s University and an MA in Art Education from CUNY Brooklyn College.
