1996 Infinity Award: Art — Annette Messager

Annette Messager is the 1995 honoree for Art

Annette Messager is a French visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice has profoundly influenced contemporary art since the 1970s. Working across photography, installation, sculpture, drawing, embroidery, collage, and found objects, Messager developed an artistic language that challenges conventional distinctions between fine art and craft while exploring themes of identity, memory, femininity, the body, and social roles. By 1996, she was widely recognized as one of the leading figures of contemporary French art and an important contributor to feminist artistic discourse.
