Stuck in your writing practice? Want to start writing creatively for the first time? In need of a little more time or inspiration? Join The Writer's Rock at The International Center of Photography for an ekphrastic writing night, designed to get you out of your head and onto the page. This one-hour event is built around ICP's exhibition William Klein: YES; Photographs, Paintings, and Film, 1948–2013 and will use Klein’s large-scale and dynamic photographs from around the world for inspiration. Following an introduction to the exhibition, you'll be guided through ways to use Klein's photographs as visual prompts, leading you toward new creative choices in your written work. This laptop-free/handwriting exercise means less editing, less judgment, less distraction, and more writing and discovery.
You're invited to write something new, continue a work-in-progress, or see where the evening takes you. We'll finish the night with time to share what you've written.
This event is $25, which includes admission to the exhibition. All genres welcome and writing experience levels welcome.
About The Writer’s Rock
Founded in 2016, The Writer's Rock is a New York-based creative writing center that makes space for everyone to try something new and expand their writing community, no matter their writing experience. The Writer’s Rock classes, workshops, and one-on-one sessions are open to all writers and are focused on helping your writing become the best version of itself.
Program Format/Accessibility Information
This is a laptop-free/handwriting interactive workshop and will take place in the galleries at ICP. Pencils and paper will be provided and seating will be available during the writing section of the program. No pens or markers are permitted in the galleries.
