Join ICP and the Nuyorican Poets Café for an art-inspired open-mic during ICP's November Free Third Thursday!
The Nuyorican Poets Café, a cultural icon on New York’s Lower East Side since 1973, presents a pop-up open mic night hosted by Felicia Cade on the theme of “exposure.” Poets and visitors are invited to view ICP’s current exhibitions, Marlene Dietrich: Play the Part, Immersion: Gregory Halpern, Raymond Meeks, and Vasantha Yogananthan, and Muriel Hasbun: Tracing Terruño, and then share their poetic take in gallery for a live audience.
Open Mic
The Nuyorican Poets Cafe open mic is available for attendees. There will be a sign-up sheet at check-in and slots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Each performer is allotted 3 minutes and all poems/pieces must be on the theme and/or inspired by the exhibitions on view.
About the Nuyorican Poets Café
Over the past 50 years, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe has served as a global home for groundbreaking works of poetry, music, theater and visual arts. A multicultural and multi-disciplinary institution, the Nuyorican gives voice to historically marginalized poets, actors, filmmakers and musicians, having launched the careers of countless legends. The Nuyorican champions the use of art & poetry as means of empowerment and social change. Our community of spectators, artists and students is a reflection of New York City’s diverse populace, with Allen Ginsberg calling the Cafe “the most integrated place on the planet.”
