During February’s Photobook Club, photographer Janelle Lynch shares her new collaborative book project, Welcome to The Salon.
Welcome to The Salon is a compilation of photographic works made during the year 2021 from The Salon, a collective of nine imagemakers led by and including Janelle Lynch. While diverse in their backgrounds, chosen media, and respective creative inquiries—from notions about perception and the metaphysical in nature to family history and the cycle of life—the members share an ethos of artistic integrity, discipline, and intellectual vigor. All artists were students of Lynch’s during the last decade at ICP. They include Irina Chaiet, Anastasia Davis, Pamela Fox, Lee Isles, Chloe Jones, Tom Klem, Andrew Rizzardi, and Michael Wilson.
A discussion about the book will be led by Lynch, who will be joined by Tonal's publisher Lee Isles. Library selections from the artist and ICP faculty member will be on view for browsing during the event.
Janelle Lynch is an artist whose work reveals an inquiry into themes of connection, presence, and transcendence. Her photographs and cyanotypes have been shown worldwide, including at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; the Museo Archivo de la Fotografía, Mexico City; and the Shanghai Center of Photography, Shanghai. Her work is in many private and public collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the International Center of Photography, New York; and the Denver Art Museum, Denver. She has three monographs published by Radius Books: Los Jardines de México (2010); Barcelona (2013); and Another Way of Looking at Love (2018). Lynch is the subject of the short documentary film by Mia Allen, Janelle Lynch: Endless Forms Most Beautiful, which will premiere in New York in 2024. She is represented by Flowers Gallery.
