ICP Community Day

August 16, 2025 (10:30AM – 6:30PM EDT)

Visit ICP during Community Day to enjoy free admission to our current exhibitions—Edward Burtynsky: The Great Acceleration and Sheida Soleimani: Panjereh, and connect with community organizations in the ICP galleries! Join us for a building wide activation featuring hands-on workshops, family activities, and open mic performances in the ICP Library.

Reserving a free ticket in advance is strongly recommended.

 

Activities 

PhotoSLAM: Share Your Best Photo Story!

During this fast-paced, open mic event, photographers, the ICP community, and audience members are invited to compete in a live story telling competition, driven by photographs. Register in advance is highly recommend. Please find the registered link here.

The Nuyorican Poets Cafe brings its iconic poetry open mic to ICP! Bring a poem based on our theme of "Community." 1,000 Words Open Mic is open for all ages; sign up onsite, first come, first served.

About PhotoSLAM's host, Idris Talib Solomon

Idris Talib Solomon is a native of Brooklyn, using the camera to illuminate the extraordinary treasures nestled within Black communities. It is his aim to share the profound narratives, vibrant cultures, and the beauty that grace their everyday lives. As a multimedia storyteller, he aspires to forge meaningful bonds. Drawing inspiration from his experiences in advertising, marketing, photography, and podcasting, he brings a distinct perspective to the realm of creative problem-solving.

 

About Nuyorican Poets Café

Over the past 50 years, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe has served as a global home for groundbreaking works of poetry, music, theater and visual arts. A multicultural and multi-disciplinary institution, the Nuyorican gives voice to historically marginalized poets, actors, filmmakers and musicians, having launched the careers of countless legends. The Nuyorican champions the use of art & poetry as means of empowerment and social change. Our community of spectators, artists and students is a reflection of New York City’s diverse populace, with Allen Ginsberg calling the Cafe “the most integrated place on the planet.”


About Paul John

Paul John is an artist, community organizer, photographer, and educator. His work is to connect people and create community via resource sharing, bookmaking, hosting events, and institution building. Paul co-founded Endless Editions and the Brooklyn Art Book Fair. Both organizations focus on creating free or low-risk opportunities in independent publishing and bookmaking.

NYC Trans Archives
 

The NYC Trans Archives (NYCTA) is dedicated to preserving transgender culture in the New York City region and beyond. Founded in 2023, NYCTA is the first and only trans-specific community-based archive in the Eastern United States. It is entirely independent and run by and for trans people.

 

Baxter St.

Founded in 1884, BAXTER ST at the Camera Club of New York is one of New York City’s oldest artist-run nonprofit spaces committed to lens-based arts. Today, the organization is a socially engaged art incubator that prepares lens-based artists for their debut and helps them create sustainable practices to move forward with integrity. In addition to a year-round exhibition schedule, the organization hosts artist residencies, critique groups, and a public series of artist talks and workshops. Baxter St promotes artists of all ages, races, ethnicities, and identities whose work connects with global conversations on culture, human rights, environment, and equality. The organization is committed to uplifting artists by sharing ideas and resources and learning together to create profound and lasting change in our organization and communities.
