Join us for the opening of 2017 ICP-Bard MFA candidate Melchior de Tinguy’s solo exhibition, Casting Call, at the ICP-Bard MFA Studios in Long Island City, on view from March 31 to April 2.
Casting Call presents sculptures and paintings made over the last ten months. The space reveals aspects of both semi-theatricality and the studio. The work shows all traces of manipulations by Tinguy, which creates a dichotomy between what is visible and what is not suppose to be seen.
Bio
Throughout his work, Melchior de Tinguy brings together various references to modernist architecture and monumental structures inspired by Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, and Roberto Burle Marx. The utopia conveyed by these seemingly grandiose references is funneled through his sculptural process to give birth to slightly grotesque anthropomorphic sculptures.
