About Dial a Dyke
Dial-A-Dyke is a hotline turned advice column for queers and dykes seeking help from elder queers. Inspired by 90s lesbian publications such as On Our Backs—which feature personals/confessionals situated in the back of an issue—we decided to take our “column” to voicemail. Any queer youth is encouraged to call our number, and our team will connect them with an elder we believe can best support their concern or question.
This project was born out of founders Mattie and Añes recognizing a shared need for guidance as young lesbians. Conversations with younger members of the community have revealed a strong generational desire to build and nurture these intergenerational relationships. Through their work with the Lesbian Herstory Archives, Mattie has built meaningful relationships with queer elders and believes that all queer people should have access to similar connections.
