Aspect is a biannual DVD magazine of new media art. The mission of the publication is to distribute and archive works of time-based art. Each issue highlights 5-10 artists working in new or experimental media, whose works are best documented in video or sound. Each work can be viewed with or without an additional commentator audio track.V.13: Public features works by Néle Azevedo, John Osorio Buck & Matthew Ward, Heather Clark & Matthew Mazzotta, Robert Ladislas Derr, Suzanne Hagood, Nina Katchadourian, Thorsten Knaub, Brian Knep, and the Spectres of Liberty (Olivia Robinson, Josh MacPhee, & Dara Greenwald). The pieces are accompanied by optional audio commentary by: Verena Rose, researcher and historian; Laura Donaldson, independent curator; Andi Sutton, artist and curator; Bill Arning, Director, Contemporary Art Museum Houston; Kelly Wacker, artist and professor; Mary Ceruti, Chief Curator at Sculpture Center; Pau Waelder, critic, curator, writer and researcher; George Fifield, media arts curator, writer, researcher, and educator; and Ryan Griffis, artist, writer, and educator.This issue presents nine time-based works positioned within civic space, around the world that are accessible to all. From ephemeral to monumental, these works engage diverse audiences and expand the notion of public art in a broader social context. The collection includes direct response to traditional statuary, works which relate technology to human experience and the natural world, exploration led by chance, community involvement, and works which reveal personal and cultural divides within public memory and architectural history.
