ICP Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism ('25) alum, Walaa Yassien, was selected for the Bronx Documentary Center's BDC Film Fellowship. She is part of a cohort of five fellows selected for the 2026-2027 fellowship program.
The BDC Films Fellowship is a free, year-long program supporting emerging documentary filmmakers from historically underrepresented communities. Fellows develop a short documentary while having access to hands-on training, mentorship, professional development, equipment access, and industry opportunities.
Yassien's practice centers on portraiture across analogue photography and moving image, with an interest in space, time, memory, and belonging. Her background in architecture continues to shape her attention to space and the relationship between people and their surroundings. She studied Documentary Photography and Photojournalism at DMJX in Denmark and later at the International Center of Photography in New York.
