Often, after experiencing traumatic events, a battered woman feels to humiliated or terrified to tell anyone what's happened to her. She thinks no one will help her. In the shelter, women discover there are many other women in a similar situation. Together they discuss their experiences and they help one another. A new solidarity develops and some of the friendships last a lifetime.
