Zhuang Hui

Zhuang Hui was born in Yumen, Gansu province, China, and currently lives and works in Beijing. He began his artistic career as an oil painter and subsequently shifted to performance-based art and photography. Hui’s work explores the relationships between public and private as well as society and the individual. In a series of group photos, Hui used an antique banquet camera to produce elongated horizontal images. By placing himself in these images, such as Group Photo of Kindergarten Class, Luoyang City, Hui blurs the boundaries between group and self-portraiture.
