Our collaboration has three exciting components. The first is the NEXT-IMAGE Awards. The “NEXT” in NEXT-IMAGE refers to the next generation of photographers using the next generation of tools to create and spread visual content—all with new forms of interaction and feedback. The 2017 Awards are broken down into seven categories:

  • @All
  • Me, Myself & I
  • Hello, Life!
  • Check-In
  • Citizen Witness
  • 3x3
  • Timeline

Visual creatives from around the world will submit images to become NEXT-IMAGE finalists, ultimately contending for best-in-category awards and the grand prize—a cash award—for the NEXT-IMAGE creative champion.

Call for entries will end on November 20, 2017. Winners will be announced on December 19, 2017. For more details, please refer to the official award website.

The second component of this program allows visitors to the ICP Museum (250 Bowery, New York, NY) to see submissions from the NEXT-IMAGE Awards. One week each month between now and April, incredible images will be curated and showcased based on themes. During the day, the work will be presented on monitors inside the ICP Museum and during evening hours, images will be “projected” onto the windows of the Museum; they will be able to be viewed from the sidewalk outside and will be most visible after sunset.

Finally, the third component will be an exciting venture called Talk in Images. This program will launch in the coming weeks as a monthly global dialogue through smartphone imagery focusing on a series of topics to pursue the concept of photography as a common language. ICP will consider how people respond to images as a way to analyze the human psyche and discover an arc of images through visual expression.

Talk in Images will be a laboratory of sorts, a visual exploration and research experiment to determine the power of imagery to launch meaningful, socially engaged, and conscientious conversations on a global scale.
