War

Sutherland, Peter.

Published in Tokyo, War is an intimately-scaled collection of some of Peter Sutherland's work that suggests, if only to the artist, the violence or ideological rigidity of war. Having never experienced it himself, Sutherland has nonetheless developed impressions of war based on movies, recollections of the army base in his hometown of Colorado Springs, and travels to Uganda, which he describes in small texts throughout the book. These are accompanied by the images themselves, most of which seem to have been taken in the United States and involve weapons, wounds, memorials to the dead, evidence of hatred and misery, and scenes of natural beauty.
