The exhibition is arranged in thematic groupings representing the growth and history of ICP's collection. An introductory section includes photographers such as Robert Capa, Cornell Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Louise Dahl-Wolfe, Diane Arbus, Edward Steichen, Helen Levitt, Andres Serrano and Tina Barney. One section will be devoted to "concerned photography," the other sections to "reflections." Images of African American life from the 3000-photograph Cowin Collection; the changing status of work from the early 20th century to the present: Lewis Hine, Walker Evans, Dan Weiner, Jeff Wall, and others; the Civil Rights Movement: Charles Moore, Gordon Parks, and others.; seldom seen images by Weegee; AIDS activist graphics from the 1980s and '90s; the diverse ways in which the concept of "femininity" had been given visual form in contemporary and historical photographs: Francis McLaughlin-Gill, Cindy Sherman, Yasumasa Morimura, Nikki S.
