Artist Statement
“Knowledge is distance, knowledge is stasis and the enemy of meaning.” - Karl Ove Knausgård
Anna Ekros is a Swedish artist based in Brooklyn. Through the medium of photography, video and drawing Anna examines her immediate surroundings carefully. Her process functions as an extension of her mind in the act of experiencing and reflecting upon experience. During the past year she has been living and working together with her roommates in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bed-Stuy. Among other things, the pieces in the show can be viewed as an investigation of the idea of the chosen family.
On the opening night (February 19) there will be music and performances by Jonathan Wood Vincent, Lathan Hardy and Emilie Lesbros, to share the stage and celebrate together. The music is curated by Miriam Atkin, Rijard Bergeron and Anna Ekros. Swedish delicacies will be served!
