We are born with "Rites" but we are given "Rights”

Opening on Saturday August 8, 2015 "The Rights of Summer" is a Photography Exhibition that looks at how different people, in different locals, from different socio-economic classes, celebrate Summer. Opening Reception is 8/8/15 from 5-8pm.

Finalist's and winner's work will be showcased alongside work from 6 established fine art photographers including Richard Misrach, Christopher Rauschenberg, Karine Laval, Gillian Laub, Amy Arbus, Arlene Gottfried, and alum Daphne Chan GS'07! In the competitions within the exhibit Daphne Chan is winner in the category "Best Summer Nude."

Conceived by juror, Ruben Natal-San Miguel, renowned photographer, writer, photography specialist/critic, and curator, who has photographically documented summer in all five boroughs of NYC. The beaches of NYC are a conglomeration of the masses, enjoying one of their "Rites" of summer appearing to be undivided by the Socio-ecomic statuses which so often dictate their "Rights". The "Lazy Days of Summer" are rejoiced by the 1% in places like the Hamptons, Palm Beach, and the French Riviera, where the 99% celebrate at Jones Beach, Lake Michigan, and barbeque on the streets of Harlem.

Juried by Ruben Natal San Miguel and Sean Corcoran, Curator of Photography and Prints for The Museum of The City Of New York.
