TELLING STORIES DIFFERENTLY: ACTIVISM AND ENGAGEMENT IN THE AGE OF NEW MEDIA | #ICPTalks

Date Jul 22, 2015
Type Panel

Presented at the ICP School on April 22, 2015, this panel explored how different visual digital storytelling tools (e.g. Instagram, Medium, multimedia platforms or dedicated 'citizen journalism' applications) redefine our concept of social engagement and activism and allow us to connect and give a voice to previously hard to reach communities. As image makers, concerned citizens and activists, what can we learn from them and from the new types of stories they allow us to tell or to listen to?

Panelists Michael Premo (Sandy Storyline, Water Warriors, etc.), Sebastian Meyer(Metrography photo agency), and Kavita Gupta (WeMynd) shared their views on some of these new platforms and stories, in a conversation moderated by Danielle Jackson (Bronx Documentary Center). Presented by Studio 55 / @st55nyc.
