RJ Muna is our 2002 honoree for Applied/Fashion/Advertising

RJ Muna was born in Jordan and raised in the San Francisco Bay area. As a teenager, he photographed the tumultuous protest marches of the 1960s, learning quickly the camera’s power to define our world. During college, Muna studied fine art and graphic design, initially working as a designer before being drawn back to photography.

From his studio in San Francisco and locations around the world, Muna has produced acclaimed work for clients including Apple, BMW, Cadillac, Levi's, North Face, and Nike, among many others. In 2001, Muna worked on campaigns for International Trucks, Applied Materials, Nissan, Mercedes, Lexus, Sony, and Dell. Though known for his extensive commercial work, RJ Muna is also an accomplished fine artist. His photographic prints use alternative darkroom processes and digital techniques. Muna’s work has been featured in Communication Arts, several Graphis annuals, Camera Arts, American Photo, and Camera Work. His first book, a monograph entitled The Apparitions, was published by Silent Pictures Press in 2000.
