1986 Infinity Award: Lifetime Achievement

Edward K. Thompson is a renowned American writer and editor. He began as a stringer for Time and in 1937 was hired as assistant picture editor at the new LIFE magazine. He served as managing editor and then editor-in-chief before retiring from LIFE in 1970. After leaving LIFE, he went on to found Smithsonian magazine.
