Rhona Bitner

Rhona Bitner explores the parallel between theater and photography – in both one enters a black box and an image appears. She investigates the experience of performance, theater and spectacle in series’ of images which translate that experience onto a two-dimensional photographic surface.

Her photographs are included in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, University Art Museum-California State University Long Beach, Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris, France, Francois Pinault Foundation, Venice, and the Fonds National d'Art Contemporain of France among others. She has been awarded a fellowship in photography from the New York Foundation for the Arts, as well as fellowships at the Marie Walsh Sharpe and Ucross Foundations and has been published extensively.

She lives and works in New York City and Paris.
