2011 Recipient for Photojournalism: Adrees Latif
Adrees Latif was born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1973 and has dual American and Pakistani citizenship. He received a BA in Journalism from the University of Houston and worked as an intern and staff photographer at The Houston Post from 1993 to 1996. Latif began freelancing for Reuters in 1996 in Houston followed by a stint in Los Angeles from 2001–2003. He then became Reuters' senior photographer in Thailand, based in Bangkok, and most recently has served as chief photographer in Pakistan. In 2010 he led Reuters' Pakistan team's coverage of the devastating floods there. Working under the most difficult of conditions, wading through waist deep floodwaters to tell the story from every possible angle, his images were published daily across international front pages, bringing attention to the enormity of the catastrophe from its earliest stages. Latif's work has received numerous industry accolades including the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography in 2008, and the First Place in the Freelance/Agency Photographer of the Year category as part of the 68th Annual Pictures of the Year Competition in 2011.
