Community Programs Teaching Assistant

With an emphasis on reaching out to diverse audiences, ICP's Community Programs encourages personal and professional growth by providing opportunities to explore, create, and study photography. Our classes, tours, workshops, and educational partnerships are designed to make the medium more accessible to people of every age and background. ICP is committed to equal opportunity employment. We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds.

Teaching Assistants are a vital part of our educational philosophy. They mentor class participants while simultaneously benefiting from the mentorship of a seasoned photography instructor. Working as a TA with Community Programs is not only a way to strengthen teaching skills, but also affords the possibility of transforming individual lives.

RESPONSIBILITIES
TA's will assist Community Programs Instructors with all aspects of classroom management, curriculum implementation, chemical clean-up and set-up, student processing, printing and portfolio development (as is applicable to the particular program).

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must possess a strong knowledge of photography – its history, techniques, and aesthetics; teaching experience; strong communication skills; an understanding of arts education; and a love of young people.

SCHEDULE
Our courses range from 10-week sessions to the length of an academic year and usually meet 1-2 times per week. We occasionally use TA's for shorter-term workshops as well. Times vary as they are based on program needs.

POLICIES AND BENEFITS
TA's receive workstudy hours, one credit hour for every hour worked. Workstudy hours can be used for darkroom time or discounts on ICP classes (40 hours = half off tuition for a 10-week class or a two-weekend workshop). It is up to each TA to keep track of their hours and complete a time sheet for every 20 hours (minimum) accrued. You can receive timecard forms from the Community Programs Associate, and completed timecards must be returned to the CP Associate in order to receive your credit hours. Credit hour coupons will be received by each TA via mail and are redeemable for one year after issue. You will be presented with an ID to be used both at your respective sites and for access at ICP. TA status allows you access to equipment rental as well as invitations to ICP public programs.
