American-born Anthony Suau, based in Europe for nearly 20 years, has dedicated his career to documenting the effects of international events on the lives of people around the world. Suau's images of the famine in Ethiopia garnered the Pulitzer Prize in 1984, and he was awarded the Robert Capa Gold Medal in 1996 for his coverage of the war in Chechnya. A contract photographer for TIME magazine since 1991 and author of several books, Suau now lives and works in New York City. In 1986 he received the ICP Infinity Award for Young Photographer.

War In America-Deployment, Columbus, Georgia, USA, March 12, 2007
450 soldiers of the third Infantry, third brigade are deployed to Iraq from Fort Benning, Georgia. Many of the men are being deployed for their second or third tour of duty.
After separating from their families soldiers spent their last few hours in a hanger at the airport waiting for the plane to fly them into Iraq.
