INTERNSHIP

DATE: October 2009
DEPARTMENT: Development
TITLE: Development Research Intern
SCHEDULE: 2–3 days per week, plus optional evening events if available
DATES REQUIRED: Fall 2009, flexible
SUPERVISOR'S TITLE: Foundation and Government Grants Coordinator, Director of Development

DESCRIPTION
The ICP Development department is offering an unpaid internship to a college or graduate student or a recent graduate. The internship is available for a period of 10 to 12 weeks, to coincide with a school semester. Applicants must be available to work 10–15 hours per week, flexible schedule. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong interest in museums, non-profit management, or fundraising.

The Development Intern will work closely with the Grants Coordinator to research potential funders for ICP's exhibition and education programs. The Intern will utilize resources of the Foundation Center (onsite and online), ICP's own fundraising database, and other resources to analyze the mission, guidelines, and giving history of a range of foundations and government grant programs to which ICP may apply for funding. The Intern will also be required to perform occasional administrative tasks such as copying, mailing, and filing. If available to work in the evenings, the Intern may be invited to work evening events such as exhibition opening receptions and prospect cultivation events.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, professional phone manner, ability to work independently and with a team, and the ability to meet deadlines efficiently. Experience working in a museum or non-profit environment, especially in fundraising, is a plus. Database experience with Raiser's Edge or similar software is also a plus, but not required.

BENEFITS
Besides gaining invaluable experience at a premier cultural/educational institution; interns benefit from school credit (when applicable); are invited to attend ICP seminars and special events; and are offered the opportunity to visit other related organizations. Tuition discounts for ICP courses, workshops and/or labs are provided, subject to internship hours completed and availability. Interns will also have opportunities to meet many prominent photographers.
