Scholarships for Young Students/Teen Academy

Students from neighborhoods around New York City come to study photography in ICP's Teen Academy. For students without significant family support, the cost of attending this quarterly after-school program is beyond reach.

The mission of ICP's Teen Academy is to provide an intensive learning environment for teenagers to explore photography while gaining a range of new skills, participating in diverse cultural and arts experiences, and receiving career and academic guidance to prepare them for higher education. Based at ICP, the program is made up of two components: after-school and summer Teen Workshops for beginning and intermediate students and an Internship Program for advanced students. Both programs offer structured yet varied curricula, individualized mentoring and advisement, and activities that sequentially build skills.

Teen Workshops serve approximately 30 students in each of the four terms. Workshop participants who have gained enough experience are eligible to apply to the Internship Program. The Internship Program, an October-June, three-term commitment, serves 17 advanced students, who receive a small stipend for their participation to encourage professionalism. The Teen Academy is unique among after-school arts education programs in New York City in that it unites students from a range of socio-economic backgrounds in the study of photography. Slightly over half of all students receive scholarships based on need.

How you can help:

  • Sponsor an individual student for one or more quarterly sessions by underwriting the cost of tuition
  • Help maintain acceptance of motivated and excellent students from all backgrounds by providing general scholarship funds to be distributed to students based on need
  • Create an endowment fund to support community-based teen education in perpetuity
