Poetic Images: Literary Illustrations from the Richard and Ronay Menschel Library, George Eastman House
JUNE 6–AUGUST 31, 2003
Through photographic illustrations of literary works and portraits of major authors from the 1840s through 1910, the exhibition explores the way that photographs gradually became assimilated to the printed page, permitting photography to become a true mass medium.
Mrs. N. Gray Bartlett, Julia Margaret Cameron, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Francis Frith, and others. Curated by Rachel Stuhlman, George Eastman House.
