The works in this exhibition all depict different aspects of consumerism, namely the artificial monetary values placed on certain images and the appropriation of those images to promote other products as well as the use of sex, glamour, celebrity, and aristocracy as selling agents. "Commodity Image," eleventh in the "New Directions" series, begun in 1985, explores critical and aesthetic issues in contemporary American photography.
